The rise of electric vehicles (EVs) in India offers numerous benefits for the environment, energy security, and public health. In 2022, India recorded CO2 emissions of 36.8 Gt. EVs contribute to bringing this quantum down and energy security by reducing reliance on imported fossil fuels. India, with over 10,54,938 EV sales in 2022, aims to have 30% of its vehicles running on electricity by 2030. EVs offer economic benefits, with the potential to generate over 50 million indirect jobs by 2030 in manufacturing, charging infrastructure development, and renewable energy sectors.
At the forefront of this revolution is copper, an essential metal playing a pivotal role in powering and propelling EVs. EVs rely on copper for various components, including electric motors, wiring, and charging infrastructure.
Copper’s exceptional electrical conductivity, thermal properties, and durability make it an ideal material for these applications.
