India has been recognized as one of the fastest growing economies in the world. India’s Net Zero goals and sustainability objectives will be very crucial facets of next phase of growth. The driving force behind this goal is the modification needed in the current energy consumption practices. Currently, India is heavily dependent on coal as the major source of energy with 72.96% generation of the total generation of electricity (as on July 2023). This consumption is followed by electricity from Hydro, Nuclear, other Renewable energy sources and Natural Gas. Recognizing the need for clean energy transition, the government of India has launched several initiatives, which focusses on industry, appliances and other markets as well.

Copper’s properties of conductivity, ductility, efficiency, and recyclability make it an ideal metal for helping achieve the clean energy goals and erecting energy-efficient infrastructure. Its wide applications in electrical wiring and distribution systems allows efficient transmission and distribution of electricity with minimal energy loss, thereby reducing energy consumption and costs. Copper is also a key component in industrial & home appliances where it is used in windings to achieve higher efficiency and lower energy consumption, resulting in significant energy savings of up to 30%. Copper’s properties are also useful in air conditioning and refrigeration cooling systems because of its excellent thermal conductivity and corrosion resistance.

ICA India is dedicated to initiatives that will pillar government’s programs to build an energy-efficient India. ICA India aims to promote the use of copper in energy-efficient applications by providing technical assistance and support to manufacturers, designers, and policymakers to help them make informed decisions about using copper. The organization has worked with OEMs to develop energy-efficient products that use copper to enhance efficiency and lifespan, resulting in significant energy savings. ICA India has collaborated with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and the Ministry of Power, to promote energy efficiency and has been instrumental in development of new standards and regulations that promote energy efficiency.

WHAT WE DO

With its energy-efficient initiatives, ICA India envisions supporting the government in succeeding to transition India into an energy-efficient country.
