India’s EV Aspiration – Safe and Efficient Charging holds the Key!
It is estimated that by 2030, 30% of all private cars, 40% of buses, 70% of commercial vehicles, and 80% of all two wheelers sold in India will be electric vehicles.
Availability of safe and efficient charging infrastructure is the third biggest concern of EV customers after price and range limitations. In response the government is planning to setup 69000 charging stations across India.

While the number of EV charging stations is limited, time taken for charging is another major concern. Despite the ongoing advances in charging technology, fast-charging a vehicle takes around 30 minutes. Long range vehicles such as busses use the high-power DC charger of 1 MW capacity. Other long range vehicles use fast chargers between 100-900 KW. Fast charging requires high power which generates a significant amount of heat due to the electric resistance of the components including cables.
Copper cables are best suited toaccommodate the high temperature generated during fast charging of EVs.
The higher the temperature, the larger is the cross section required for cables to carry the same level of voltage without overheating. Here, copper cables tend to need much less cross section than aluminum cables due to copper’s higher resistance to heat.
